I’ve included some examples of drawings
on my website to illustrate how my work begins. By reaching
back into memories of events, people, or objects and drawing
them out I inform my work of color, form, and tone. These
initial drawings are lists of memories that gradually get
abstracted down as the process of making work moves into
different media. Their original meanings are lost to the
viewer, but hopefully take on new weight to those who use
and see my work.
Drawing is also just as much of a concept
in my work: it is the visual approximation of an idea.
By defining it as such, my idea of what a pot is in the
traditional sense is altered and informed from a wider
array of influences. The pot is the drawing.
